When we say this is a family owned and operated business‚ we mean it. The funny thing is that many people think it’s the Anthony Family‚ when in fact it’s the Polimeni Family. And that’s Italian.
The name Dean Anthony’s comes from Dean Anthony Polimeni‚ the second oldest of the four Polimeni sons and the older of the two brothers in the business‚ who originated the idea of starting a family owned and operated Italian restaurant business more than 10 years ago. Dean brought the concept to his dad‚ Dominic Polimeni. Between Dean’s restaurant experience and Dom’s business experience‚ together they developed the business plan. As they got into it‚ mom‚ Carol Polimeni‚ contributed to the process‚ especially with family recipes and views from a consumer’s point of view. As the plan began to take form‚ Joseph Polimeni‚ the youngest of the four brothers‚ expressed his interest in being a part of this family venture.
Dean has been in the restaurant business since his early teen years‚ from pizza prep to pizza maker‚ from food prep to chef‚ and from restaurant staff to manager. Joey also learned the pizza business while working for pizza restaurants while in school. Together they have made a formidable team‚ backed up by mom and dad.
The original restaurant‚ Dean Anthony’s Pizzeria & Restaurant in Boynton Beach‚ first opened for business in January 1998‚ with Dean as chef and general manager and Joey in charge of the pizza area. Mom made the cheesecakes (secret recipe) and helped out in the dinning room. Today there are two restaurants‚ with Dean still running Boynton Beach and Joey running Wellington. Mom and dad bounce between the two‚ with mom still making the cheesecakes and running the Boynton dinning room on certain nights.
